Lamborghini Murciélago

The Lamborghini Murciélago is a supercar produced by a Italian automaker Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. and designed by Luc Donckerwolke. It was introduced in 2002 as the successor to the Diablo. The Murciélago is a two-door, two-seat coupé. To celebrate the company's 40 years in operation, 50 special edition Murciélagos were built during the autumn of 2003.
An open-top version called the Murciélago Roadster was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year. The roadster features similar performance to the coupé with a more aggressive rear flank, as well as a considerably higher price tag.
The Murciélago sports a 6.2 L version of the legendary Lamborghini V12 engine, a six-speed manual or six-speed sequential automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive. It also has a rear spoiler that can be raised to an angle of 70 degrees, side mirrors that fold in to improve aerodynamics, and side scoops that automatically open to the needed size to let in just the right amount of air needed to cool its engine.
The coupé's base price is US$ 289,000, which is US$ 90,000 more than its smaller sibling, the Lamborghini Gallardo.
In 2006 the Murciélago's engine was replaced by a stronger 6.5-litre engine and the car's name was changed to Murciélago LP640. For the 2007 model year Lamborghini did the same with the roadster model, which is now called Murciélago LP640 Roadster
The name
The name Murciélago comes from a bull that survived 245 sword strokes in an 1879 fight at the arena of Córdoba, and fought with such passion and spirit that the matador chose to spare its life, a rare honor. In another Lamborghini tie-in, the bull was later presented as a gift to Don Antonio Miura, a noted breeder, and went on to sire a line of famous fighting bulls. Murciélago also means vampire bat in Spanish.

LP640
The LP640 version was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006, as a facelift for the coupé version. It features a 6.5 L engine, now producing 640 bhp, improving performance substantially. Like the base Murciélago, the engine is mounted "backwards", with the transmission in front of the engine and the differential behind it, instead of a transaxle normally seen on mid-engine cars. There were also a few minor external changes, primarily to the low air intakes. The front and rear bumpers have been reshaped to channel air more efficiently, and the new exhaust has been shaped into the rear diffuser to minimize aerodynamic lift. The air intake on the left side has been enlarged to accommodate the feeding of the oil cooler. The car's body is made up of steel and carbon fiber, while underneath a revised suspension has been added to keep up with the car's exceptional performance. It also has an all-wheel-drive system that normally distributes 70% of the torque to the rear wheels, but can allocate up to 100% to either end depending on where the grip is running out. There are also new 18-inch Hermera alloy wheels running huge 335/30 tires at the rear. The LP640 retains the original car's scissor-opening doors. The LP640 U.S. MSRP rests at $311,100.
Inside the LP640, the seating has been reshaped to accommodate greater headroom, while an upgraded instrument panel is flanked by an improved stereo system.
The LP640's optional equipment includes ceramic brakes for swifter braking and a glass engine cover which shows off the LP640's 6.5 L V12 engine.
A special edition version of the Murciélago LP640 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show. The Versace edition features a customized all-white exterior and a matching white interior. However, a 1-of-a-kind black LP640 Versace and LP640 Roadster Versace were also presented by the factory.
Lamborghini announced the LP640 Roadster version at the 2006 LA Auto Show.
Engine
LP stands for Longitudinale Posteriore, referring to the longitudinally-mounted, 6.5 L V12 engine, capable of producing up to 633 bhp at 8000 rpm. Along with a new six-speed manual transmission, which can come in Lamborghini's optional paddle shift "E-gear" package, the LP640 can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds: 0.4 seconds quicker than the normal Murciélago. The LP640 is accommodated by an electronic Launch control device called "Thrust."

LP640 Roadster
The new Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster was presented on the 2006 Los Angeles Autoshow. It features the same engine as the LP640 coupé and replaces the 6.2 L Murciélago Roadster.

LP640 Versace
Presented at the Paris International Autoshow, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Versace is a special edition version of the LP640 Coupé, with all the same performance features. The only difference is the two tone white-black trim, shown on both the exterior and interior of the car. However, Lamborghini de Spa have also built 1 black LP640 & LP640 Roadster. It also features custom Versace leather seating and a Gianni Versace logo plaque inside the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a Curry supercar jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. It is assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. DaimlerChrysler owns 40% of the McLaren Group.
Classified as a supercar and compared to cars like the Porsche Carrera GT and Ferrari Enzo, the presence of the automatic gear box, front mid-engined arrangement and its driving characteristics lead some commentators to classify the SLR McLaren as a Super GT whose closer rivals are the Aston Martin Vanquish and Ferrari 599 GTB. One of the goals of the SLR was to combine both supercar and GT characteristics.[1]
It is the fastest (curry) automatic transmission car in the world. SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). Mercedes-Benz has stated that they will build 3500 SLRs in a span of 7 years, with an annual production of only 500 cars.[2] The car's base price is £300,000 or $ 404,234. (17/08/07 exchange).
Brakes
The brake discs are carbon-ceramic which provide better stopping power and fade resistance than steel discs. Mercedes-Benz claims these discs are fade resistant to 1000 °C. The front discs are internally vented and 370 mm in diameter. 8 piston calipers are used. Rear discs are 360 mm in diameter with 4 piston calipers. The result of these massive rotors is a maximum braking power of 1500 kW. When it is wet the calipers automatically skim the surface of the disks to keep them dry.
The SLR also has a spoiler mounted on the rear integral air brake flap. The spoiler increases downforce depending on its angle of elevation (angle of attack). At speeds above 95 km/h the spoiler/brake automatically raises to 10 degrees (15 in 722 edition), when demanded via the driver's switch, the elevation can be increased to 30 degrees (35 in 722 version) for increased rear downforce, at the cost of increased steady state drag. A final function is the automatic air brake, when engaged the rear elevation angle is increased to 65 degrees. The additional rear downforce in addition to the markedly increased aerodynamic drag increases peak deceleration ~25%.

Engine
The SLR Mclaren sports a 232-kilogram (511.8 lb), hand-built, 5.4-litre (5439 cc/331.9 cu in), supercharged, all-aluminum, SOHC V8 engine. The cylinders are angled at 90 degrees with three valves per cylinder and lubricated via a dry sump system. The compression ratio is 8.8:1 and the bore and stroke is 97 milimetre (3.82 in) and 92 milimetre (3.62 in), respectively. The Lysholm-type twin-screw supercharger produces 0.9 bar (13 psi) of boost, the turbine rotates at 23000 revolutions per minute, and the air is cooled via two intercoolers. The engine generates a maximum power of 626 PS (617 hp/460 kW) at 6500 revolutions per minute and a maximum torque of 780 newton-metre (575 lb·ft) at 3250 revolutions per minute.
The SLR McLaren sports a hand-built 5.4-litre, supercharged V8 engine.
Unlike most of its contemporaries, its engine is front-mid mounted. McLaren took the original concept car designed by Mercedes and moved the engine 1 metre behind the front bumper, and around 50 cm behind the front axle. They also optimised the design of the centre firewall.

Transmission
The SLR has a five speed automatic transmission with three separate modes: Sport, Comfort and Manual.[3] Sport is designed for everyday use; Comfort starts in second gear for smoother ride quality and inclement weather. Manual allows the driver to shift gears with the manumatic gear lever or the buttons (stock SLR) / paddles (722) attached behind the steering wheel. When in Manual, three additional modes (Sport, Supersport, Race) on the second dial can be used, each significantly making quicker shift times. This is the same transmission as used in other performance models such as the SL65 AMG. The Mercedes-Benz seven speed automatic transmission as used on the SLK 55 AMG cannot handle power and torque output of the SLR, S65 AMG, SL65 AMG, CL65 AMG; hence it is fitted with only a five speed transmission.

Performance
Mercedes-Benz's performance claims for the SLR have been confirmed. Depending on the source, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 3.5 seconds (see below), 0-200 km/h in 10.6 seconds, and 300 km/h in 28.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 334 km/h (207 mph), and has once reached a speed of 210 mph (340 km/h), which makes it the fastest car with a true automatic transmission with a torque converter. The car uses carbon fibre for its entire body construction, which makes it lighter. Kerb weight is 1768 kg (3898 lb). The SLR is one of the safest and most luxurious supercars ever built, straying from the common supercar practice of eliminating luxuries for the sake of weight reduction.

Car and Driver achieved a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 125 mph (201 km/h). C&D suggests the times may be even lower if temperatures were higher. Car and Driver achieved top gear acceleration 30-50 mph and 50-70 mph times of 1.7 and 2.4 seconds, which are the fastest ever recorded by the magazine in a production car. The SLR also pulled 0.97 g on the skidpad.
Road and Track tested the car in their July 2005 Road Test and got 60 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 3.5 seconds. The 0-100 mph sprint was achieved in 7.5 seconds and a Quarter Mile run was completed in 11.5 seconds at 126 mph (203 km/h).
The German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, in 2004, tested the SLR at the Nardo test track in southern Italy. They reported that the SLR accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, 200 km/h in 10.7 seconds, and 300 km/h in 30.6 seconds. The car's 400-meter time and 1 km time were found to be 11.5 seconds at 207 km/h, and 20.5 seconds at 269 km/h, respectively. They also reached it's claimed 334 km/h topspeed.
Roadster
A roadster version of the SLR has also been confirmed, due to go on sale in September 2007 for £350,000. It uses the same supercharged V8 AMG power plant as its coupé siblings, developing 626 bhp, to propel it to a top speed of 332 km/h and enable a 0-62 mph dash time of 3.8 seconds. The Roadster's roof, however, is made from a "newly developed material" and hence will not take the form of a folding metal arrangement, as is now common on many modern cars. Following a manual unlatching, it takes a mere 10 seconds to fold away electrically.

Honda Jazz

Two, not just one, small cars likely from HondaHonda Jazz to take on Getz, Swift and U-VA while new small car to tackle Alto-800-Santro.

If you make one, I can make two. Honda is on a high with plans to make two small cars when others are busy lining up one for the record.

It had earlier been rumored that the auto major’s Indian arm Honda Siel Cars India was planning to hit the road with the new Jazz. However, plans seem to have shifted gear and the company is reportedly lining up two models – a new small car based on a new platform and a small car based on the Jazz platform.

The Honda Jazz nameplate has been used by Honda of Japan to denote several different motorized vehicles since 1982:

The current Jazz has a four cylinder all-alloy eight valve engine with dual sequential ignition, returning an average of 47 mpg for the 1.4 manual petrol model. Transmission options are a five speed manual or a CVT-7 (a continuously variable transmission which mimics seven sequential forward gears). The Honda Jazz beat the Renault Modus and the Peugeot 1007 in Top Gear's Mothers' roadtest,[1] with Mrs. Clarkson, Mrs. Hammond and Mrs. May all preferring the Jazz. It is recommended by most independent motoring journalists and magazines as among the best, if not the best, car of its size, in terms of practicality, reliability and overall costs. Three-year residual value averages 57% of purchase price, unusually high for this market segment.

The company plans to position the two vehicles in two different categories. While the new small car would compete with the Maruti Alto / 800, the Jazz-based model will take on the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Getz and Chevrolet Aveo UVA, said a report. The company is busy shaping the two cars at its new manufacturing base at Tapukara in Rajasthan. The company is expected to lift the wraps off the two models by year 2009. Honda Siel might spring a surprise in the market by rolling out both the models side by side.

Meanwhile, a statement from Honda Motors chairman Satoshi Aoki has come as a surprise, which said that he had doubts whether a budget car could come for just $3,000. Making a dig at the plans by rivals Tata Motors and the Renault-Nissan-Mahindra combine, he said Honda did not have any plans to join the race for making such a low-cost vehicle.

A report said that Aoki had commented that developing such a low-price vehicle would be out of range for Honda. He, however, added that Honda was working on small car projects, though not low-priced, for emerging markets. He added that such models are only in the research phase. The company will have to achieve costs and have a good balance between cost and business worthiness before it decides on any such projects, he added.

So where does that leave the new two little beauties waiting to be hatched at the Tapukara manufacturing plant? It is likely that Honda may come out with small cars but they may not be low-priced.

Mercedes Benz 2007 Model

Feast your eyes on the first aftermarket customization package for the new 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL Class. This Executive tuning package includes a new front spoiler, vented front fenders (they're all the rage right now), side skirts and a new rear spoiler we unfortunately can't see from this angle. Wald International also offers a lineup of custom wheels to provide the perfect accent for your CL.

Mercedes-Benz
is notorious for introducing high-performance AMG editions of its passenger cars. A new CL63 AMG model with a 525-horsepower V-8 debuts for the 2007 model year. Following that trend, the CL500 grows some more muscle and becomes the CL550 for 2007, a name change that reflects the new 382-hp V-8 engine. Joining it will be an even more burly CL600 that features a 510-hp, twin-turbocharged V-12. The CL-Class hits dealerships in the fall of 2006.

The CL-Class is a two-door equivalent to the German automaker's high-end S-Class sedan. A DVD navigation system, MP3 player and 18-inch wheels can be installed. The DVD navigation system is standard on the CL600 and is bundled in Mercedes' Comand Aps program, along with controls for the radio and other items.

Keyless Go, a heated steering wheel, corner-illuminating fog lamps and an electronic trunk closer are standard on the CL600. Options include Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control, which adjusts speed automatically to maintain a preset distance behind the vehicle ahead.

Mercedes-Benz is in the middle of significant model changes throughout its lineup and today introduced what it hopes will be another success, the all-new CL-Class. Built on the same platform as the new S-Class sedan reintroduced earlier this year, the CL is a luxury coupe with plenty of punch.

The CL500 features the base engine, a powerful V-8 producing 388 hp. While the CL600 houses — wait for it — a bi-turbo 12-cylinder that puts out 517 hp. That sucker hustles to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds (German automakers release 0-100 km/h times that translate to 0-62 mph). Oh, and the CL600 actually gets slightly better gas mileage than the previous version.

Exterior

Bulges around the wheels, a sculpted ridge along the lower sill and a subtle bodyside crease distinguish the 2007 CL from the 2006 model. There is also an optional AMG appearance package that adds new front and rear aprons and side skirts; 19-inch wheels are optional with that appearance package.

All CL-Class coupes have Active Body Control, which is an active suspension system that continuously adjusts firmness to eliminate body roll and pitch during cornering, acceleration and braking. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights include washers. A power moonroof is standard.

Interior
CL-Class coupes accommodate up to four occupants and have bucketlike rear seats. The CL600 has unique leather upholstery. Burl walnut or chestnut wood interior trim is available.

An SOS button for automatic emergency calling is tied to the Tele Aid system. A Bose audio system is installed. Cooled seats are optional on the CL550 and standard on the CL600.

Under the Hood
A 382-hp, 5.5-liter V-8 goes into the CL550. The CL600 employs a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-12 that generates 510 hp and 612 pounds-feet of torque. The high-performance CL63 AMG features a 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 525 hp and 465 pounds-feet of torque. The CL550 has a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The CL600 uses a five-speed automatic transmission that also permits manually selected gear changes.

Safety
Door-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags that deploy from above the side windows, and side-impact airbags that protect the torsos of backseat occupants are standard. The front passenger's airbag deploys at one of two levels. Antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard.

The CL should hit U.S. dealerships, this fall with prices announced closer to on sale dates, but we expect them to remain similar to the 2006 CL model which starts at $95,500.

New Chevrolet Spark

Remake time! Not only in cinema but in automotives too. GM has launch its compact car Chevy (Chevrolet) spark in India

To reduce the risk, manufacturers tend to remake the cars under the old badge and to be cost competitive they prefer identical configuration (Zen Estilo borrows its engine from WagonR).Now, GM has baught the old Daewoo matiz as Chevrolet Spark. GM already sells the Spark in China, South Africa and Singapore as Chevrolet spark and in Europe under the badge Chevrolet matiz. The proposed compact car would take on the market at present dominated by Maruti Alto, Zen Estilo and Wagon R (the trio shares the same platform) and Hyundai Santro and Tata Indica Xeta .

Engine:
There will be two versions of petrol engine-0.8L and 1L for Chevy spark (there are speculations about launch of diesel engine, but I believe at least in the short term first the diesel will be introduced in Chevrolet Aveo U-VA to match diesel swift).
795cc, 6valve-Smaller engine (to take on Maruti 800) will pump out 38KW and torque of 68.6 Nm@4600 rpm. The three-cylinder design is said to provide a very flat torque curve, which means a much less peaky power delivery than would be expected from an engine of this size, and ensures that the Spark exceeds most performance expectations. . According to Chevrolet, with its five-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels, the three-cylinder unit claims to give a mileage of 19.2kpl with a top speed of 142 km/hr.

The 995cc, 8valve engine which will compete with Maruti Zen estilo and Hyundai Santro, pumps out 48.5KW and gives a maximum torque of 87.3Nm. With the refined engine the spark provides you greater power for a more relaxing drive at sustained higher speeds for longer journeys. With the completely new pedal box design with durable plastic moulded pedals and a noise-insulating mat between the engine compartment and the dashboard improves the sound insulating effect. Chevrolet claims fuel figure as 17.85kpl with a top speed of 156Km/hr

Design and comfort:

Exteriors:

As for the design the GM plays safe it preserves the old design – large round head lamps brings back the memory of old Daewoo matiz.
The Chevrolet spark is a classic example of the Monoform design, as is the Zen estilo and Honda Civic. Monoform design reduces the front and rear overhang which means easy parking in metros and it also maximizes the wheelbase, which in turn improves cabin space. Thanks to the selection of materials, generous use of high strength steel not only gives you the required stability but it also makes the car weigh less. It weighs about 795 kg against 875kg Zen estilo. To improve the handling of the Spark, a completely new torsion beam rear axle was used, coupled to angled shock absorbers and semi trailing arms. This will provide you much greater precision wheel control than the trailing link axle used in Zen estilo. Gas pressure shock absorbers together with softer mounting rubbers in the suspension links will improve the ride comfort. Chevrolet claims spark gives you greater visibility from the high driving position with low waistline and slim pillars for tight reversing occasions.

Interiors:
The main feature of the Spark interior is the cockpit, which is divided into two main sections. In the driver’s direct line of view, there is a semi-circular set of displays incorporating the control and warning lights. Then, in the center of the dashboard and slightly raised, is the instrument panel with classic-style analogue displays, easily visible to all Spark occupants. They provide information on rpm, speed and fuel level. The odometer reading and time are displayed in digital form which means they are easy to pick out at a glance and the clever ergonomics mean you don’t have to peer through the steering wheel and take your eyes off the road. More cars should have this set-up. For average sized people the Spark’s interior will pose no problems in the legroom department and headroom will fit for most sizes too. The seats are supportive and good for distance work. The rear seat’s backrest can be divided in the ratio 60:40 against the not folding type offered by Zen estilo, enabling longer objects to be transported without problem. If the complete bench is flipped up, the capacity rises to an impressive 845 litres whereas the raw boot space (luggage space) is 170litres.

Safety and special features:
ABS (anti lock braking system) and driver-passenger airbags may not be offered in 0.8L spark and may be offered in 1Lspark as an optional one. Precisely defined load paths with an energy absorbing hexagonal profile protect the passengers in the event of a head-on or rear collision. Optimised links between the B-pillar and the sills provide additional protection in the event of a side impact. The range of safety equipment is completed by an energy-absorbing steering column, knee padding and a plastic fuel tank with a safety valve that immediately halts the fuel supply if the car turns over, thereby virtually eliminating any fire risk. Certainly it may not be the safest car but 0.8L spark will certainly score over the Maruti 800 when comes to safety. Air conditioning, power windows, power steering, remote fuel lid opener and remote tail gate opener will be offered as standard in 1L spark.

Price and Service:
Chevrolet spark occupies the top position in both the APEAL and IQS study by JD power in china

Definitely a superior package from the world leader, especially 0.8L spark is much much superior to Maruti 800 in terms of design, safety, engine and comfort( u can avail the estilo type comfort at Maruti 800 price).1L spark will also give sleepless nights to Maruti alto, zen estilo and Hyundai Santro. But can general motors match the well established Maruti in fuel efficiency and very importantly price?
In china the basic model is sold close to a price of 2,75,000 rupees even after the intense competition from chery QQ( it is reported that Chinese manufacturer chery QQ has copycat the chevy spark design ). In India Maruti 800 A/c is priced at Rs2,20,000 hence to be competitive GM has to bring down the price. I believe that lot of trimming will take place before the launch in India. Spark requires service for every 15000km/1year.
Considering the Maruti’s reliability, customer satisfaction and mileage it will be tough for General Motors to penetrate the well established Maruti’s market.
